REFURBISHING AND MAINTENANCE OF WATER BATH FOR USE IN THE LABORATORY
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Water bath is a device for regulating the temperature of anything subjected to heat by surrounding the vessel containing the sample with specific temperature.
It is thematically controlled at 370C and can also be start up to 560C depending on the investigation being carried onto it is also used for sterilization in the laboratory, it has a temperature adjustment knob and features temperature ranges from ambient to 650C without the temperature control is to 0.5 *Amazo, 1992)
1.1AIM AND OBJECTION
The aim and objective of this project is the refurbishing and repair of the Gallenkamp water bath in the biology laboratory of the depart of SLT, IMT Enugu.
Refurbishing of water bath in the biology laboratory was carried out to creat awareness and to familiarize the students with the use, maintenance and repair of water bath used in the laboratory.
1.2STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The refurbishing of the Gallen water bath was initiated by nonfunctioning and performance of the water bath in the biology laboratory SLT IMT Enugu.
The thermostat and high heater of 1.5KW was confirmed damaged through troubleshooting the outer layer was discovered to be rusting.
1.3LIMITATION
This work was limited to the refurbishing of the existing water bath in biology laboratory of SLT IMT Enugu. This was because the time with which to finish this project was too short.
Also finances mean of transportation and inadequate power supply limited the scope of this work.
1.4JUSTIFICATION
Water bath aids in laboratory experiment especially where substance require to under go heat at a given temperature.
As stated before, that water batch help in sterilization at controlled temperature.
From the research carried out, students are made to understand that substance that can not be heated in a Bunsen burner or other media can be carried out in water bath in a given laboratory.
It provide practical experience in experiment, laboratory material and research work.
