THE EFFECT OF STRESS ON EMPLOYEES PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIAN POLYTECHNICS (A STUDY OF DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC OGWASHI-UKU)
ABSTRACT
This study was intended to examine the effect of stress on employee performance in Nigerian Polytechnics. This study was guided by the following objectives; to investigate the effect of job stress on employees’ performance in Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, to examine the nature of job stress faced by Nigerian Lecturers, to identify the factors that is responsible for job stress for Nigerian Lecturers and to ascertain the strategies for dealing with job stress among Nigerian Lecturers. The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using the chi square statistical tool at 5% level of significance which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The respondents under the study were 150 staff of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku.. The study findings revealed that job stress does affect Nigerian Lecturers; based on the findings from the study, lack of resources such as inadequate staff and lack of equipment must be advocated by the heads of the department or sections for the benefit of the staff.
